What is the difference between a mission statement and a vision statement
I’ve noticed that there can be confusion over what MISSION and VISION are in business. So, I thought it might be useful to give an explanation as I see it.
Mission Statement
A mission statement focuses on TODAY and what an organisation actually does.
It is a persuasive statement that captures what you do (the reason the business exists) and your unique features (the legacy you want to be remembered for and how you stand out from the competition).
Think of it as the HOW of what you do and consider your purpose, values and goals. You might find this in the about section of your website.
Vision statement
A vision statement focuses on TOMORROW and what an organisation wants to ultimately become or ultimately achieve. This is the WHY of what you do because it captures the reason the business exists.
